Heat strengthened glass is manufactured in a similar process to tempered glass. Its strength, however, is only approximately twice that of annealed glass of an equivalent thickness. When broken, heat strengthened glass tends to break into larger particles than tempered glass.
Heat strengthened glass provides good resistance to thermal shock and is not susceptible to “Spontaneous breakage” due to Nickel Sulphide Inclusions. However, is Not is not rated as a safety glazing material.
